The first law of thermodynamics:

dU={delta}Q+{delta}W+{delta}W{prime}

where {delta}Q=TdS,
{delta}W=-PdV is the work done on the system, and
{delta}W{prime} is all the other kinds of work done on the system ({delta}W{prime} is usually taken to be zero).

So, we can write the first law of thermodynamics as:

dU=TdS-PdV
